In particular it looks at two bio-inspired approaches which use image information and are thus suitable for low-power consumption systems in early object detection and obstacle avoidance. The first approach is based on the processing of optical flow gained from one-dimensional image through an easy-to-calculate algorithm. The other approach is evolutional and it uses an artificial neural network and genetic algorithm. The algorithm determines individuals of the population using its fitness function Kategória publikačnej činnosti AFC Číslo archívnej kópie 7256 Katal.org. The optical flow contains information (spatial and temporal) which can be used for object detection in an environment as well as for navigation. The optical flow is defined through a vector field, the vectors of which represent speed at which the objects under detection move (environment texture). The described calculation method of optical flow and the proposed optical flow detector is inspired by biology, in particular by flying insects. The optical flow detector uses a simple algorithm and one-dimensional image detectors with low resolution. The proposed detector can be applied in low-energy systems for early object detection, obstacle avoidance and navigation, for example in autonomous ultra-light airplanes and slow-motion robots Kategória publikačnej činnosti AFD Číslo archívnej kópie 7257 Katal.org.
