It theoretically specifies basic terms, advantages and disadvantages of planning, describes general planning process and structure of planning, including methods utilized in planning activities. Analytical part is oriented on description of methodology and presentation of results gained within primary research. Interpretation of results is made in order to confirm or reject three main research questions that were put at the beginning of our research. The interpretation was made according to selected sorting criterion and with focus to characterize planning process in practice, incentives for planning, planning methods and control mechanism used in planning process evaluation. This type of state investment incentives can be defined as a regional support aimed at encouraging investments in disadvantaged regions and at creating new jobs. Moreover, it represents a tool that can encourage foreign companies and investors for choosing Slovak Republic as a place for their business activities and establishment of their plants. This article deals with the main principles of investment aid in Slovak Republic that is formulated in the Act No. 561/2007 on Investment Aid. It also presents and analyses the results of the data concerning the investments aid provided to the companies between the years 2002 and 2014. Main aim of this article is to prove the effectiveness of investment aid in self-governing regions of Slovakia.
