Becoming a bookworm: social, cultural and educational hurdles to reading literacy and motivation to read / Jana Javorčíková, Renata Vajdičková. -- The scholarly article entitled Becoming a bookworm: social, cultural and educational hurdles to reading literacy and motivation to read, presents results of two-year research of university students´readiong skills related to their reading habits and to their social and cultural background which may stimulate as well as barrier one´s attitude to reading. The article provides a detailed quantitative analysis and the follow-up discussion of student´s skills, knowledge and competencies that enhance or limit their reading abilities. Sample corpus is composed of 84 questionnaries, completed by students in Humaninies-related academic programmes. The research is based on the assumption, and proves it beyond doubt, that one´s environment (including family, role models, etc.) helps to shape one´s attitude to reading and consequently - one´s reading skills
