AnnotationWithin the Poodří nature reserve and the Odra River old parallel channel, Slaňáky, various forms of phosphorus were investigated due to increased high concentrations of total phosphorus (Ptot) in the surface water. Surface water samples were subjected to chemical analyses using absorption spectrophotometry (Ptot and P-PO43-) and accompanying parameters (t, O2, pH, Cond, TSS ) were measured. Next, grain size analysis of the sediment and sediment analyses using X-ray fluorescence were carried out (P, Fe, Al, Ca, Si, K, Mn, S, etc.). The seasonality of Ptot concentrations in the water was not confirmed, the reservoir behaved as a pool. The concentrations of the dissolved inorganic form P- PO43- were low when compared to Ptot, thus suspended phosphorus prevailed. This may be related to the low depth of the given water body, where stratification does not occur in contrast to deep water bodies. However, sediment resuspension is frequent, and phosphorus largely accumulates. The concentrations of Ptot in the sediment ranged around 4900 mg/kg, where the inorganic form prevailed (87.24 – 93.73 %) over the organic (6.27 – 12.76 %). At the same time, the sediment samples were abundant for sand fractions (2 – 0.03 mm), 47.86 – 60.89 %, and finest silt and clay (< 0.063 mm), 33.07 – 44.60 %.

AnnotationThis elaborate reports an environmental study concerning the abandoned Caporciano copper mine in Montecatini Val di Cecina. The environmental matrices (water, soil, dump sediments, plants) of the studied mining sites were investigated in order to evaluate its environmental status. The heavy metals mobilization can cause contamination of country components. Our attention was focused on heavy metal content in the studied environmental matrices. Concentration values which we found out by laboratory analyses were also compared with concentration limits provided by Italian law (L.D. 152/06) as far as soil and water are concerned. Acidification potential of dump sediments and soils from the dump was also studied. The acidification risk seems to be negligible. The bioconcentration factor (BIF) and translocation factor (TF) of the heavy metals in the studied plants (Pinus sp. and Quercus sp.) indicate that the plants are excluders. Also the enrichment factor (EF) is not very high

AnnotationThe area of Sedem Žien tailing pond and the nearby Šobov hydroquartzite quarry affected by mining activity were investigated by geochemical and mineralogical methods to determine the contaminating chemical compounds and study their availability. The degradation of the hydrothermal base mineralisation (galena, sphalerite, pyrite, pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite) and of fine-grained pyrite oxidation, which forms impregnations in hydroquartzite produce AMD. The area is acidified and the country components (soil, rock, water) are contaminated mainly by Pb, Zn and Fe. The tailing pond dam forming soils show acid pH (2.28 – 3.25), whereas the soil on the tailing pond surface is close to neutral pH (7.26). The availability of the metals from the soil is up to 75 %. The AMD from the hydroquartzite quarry is in comparison with those percolating the tailing pond sediments very acid (pH 2.71) and contains high concentration of metals (Fe 311 mg.L-1, Zn 1690 µg.L-1, Cu 890 µg.L-1, Pb 126 µg.L-1). Isotopic measurements show meteoric origin of the waters

AnnotationThe results of the potentially toxic elements imput to the representatives of the genus Pinus spp. and Quercus spp. at four selected closed Cu-deposits: Lubietová (Slovakia), Libiola and Caporciano (Italy) and São Domingos (Portugal) are significantly complicated. The imput of the potentially toxic elements to the plants at mining areas in comparison with reference areas usually markedly differ. At the mining areas show the plants much more bioaccumulation of toxic elements into their organs. The bioavailability of individual toxic elements is mutable but in general relatively limited. Pinus spp. and Quercus spp. are for most elements excluders (bioconcentration factor BCF < 1). Only Ag show extraordinary ability to high degree of bioconcentration. Also bioconcentration factor values in Pinus sp. at Lubietová ore-field show high degree of Pb and Zn accumulation in studied plants. Zinc is in Pinus spp. and Quercus spp. accumulated in needles at all studied deposits. The translocation factor (TF) indicates that the other studied toxic elements are accumulated preferentially in roots. The studied plants are suitable only for phytostabilization of the potentially toxic elements.

AnnotationOznačenie ťažké kovy bolo prevzaté z metalurgie. Ťažké kovy patria medzi základné skupiny kontaminujúcich látok. Ich definícia nie je jednoznačná. Z hľadiska chémie žiadny význam. Niekedy sa pojem ťažké kovy a pojem toxické kovy zamieňa. Skutočnosť, že termín ťažký kov nemá žiadny chemický význam a snaha nahradiť ho termínom toxický kov tiež nerieši skutočnosť, že kovy sú toxické len pri istej koncentrácii a v istých chemických väzbách, závislých na speciácii kovu viedla k snahe nahradiť vyššie uvedené nepresné termíny termínom potenciálne toxické prvky (PTP). Napriek tejto snahe sa nateraz vo všeobecnosti termín toxický kov – toxické kovy všeobecne používa
