AnnotationAs water becomes increasingly scarce, water managers are seeking new and sustainable solutions to water supply problems. Inappropriate human activities in river basin can bring about a series of irreversible changes that may completely influence the character of water resources and the way of their downstream usage. Since the water resources are influenced by a number links between elements and components of landscape, they cannot be managed separately. Water management calls for integrated principle on a river basin level. For this purpose it is crucial to understand how landscape influences distribution of water resources. In this paper we have focused on evaluation of hydric potential of six river basins in Slovakia. Assessing of the most relevant landscape attributes in relation to creation of water resources, we have identified areas with various categories of hydric potential of landscape, which should be considered when developing a river basin management plan.
