AnnotationEven though the phenomenon of hidden champions originated more than 30 years ago, it is very difficult to understand and find the boundaries of the differences between them and international corporations as both categories of enterprises are world leaders. Hidden champions work in niche markets without swaying at a competition with giants, resource bases of corporations are far superior to champions’, goals set for both categories of organizations differ in certain ways, etc. In order to better understand the differences, it is necessary to clarify some provisions relating to the concept of “hidden champions” on one hand and to “international corporations” on another. The purpose of this paper is to briefly review both types of enterprises and develop recommendations on which the differences between hidden champions and international corporations will be more clearly visible (no claim, however, to complete solution in the framework of this paper).

AnnotationThe current stage of our society’s development is characterized by the escalating effects of globalization worldwide. It is also a significantly reflected in personnel work in the companies. Working in an international environment is demanding and requires collaboration among people of different cultures. Local policies used and accepted in domestic enterprises is gradually changing - it is internationalized. There are also changes in the approaches of multinational companies to human resources management. The purpose of the paper is to present the views of experts on international human resources management, assessed by several authors, and to adopt evaluation opinions. We assume that the differentiated approaches of the multinational (parent) company to the subsidiaries influence the degree of convergence and divergence in management. The theoretical knowledge will be supported by the results of the survey conducted in 2018 in 271 companies in Slovakia selected on the basis of their international scope and long-term performance. The expected result is to verify the dependence between the chosen approach to human resources management and the competence of subsidiaries in designing and implementation of standards, norms and directives using the Pearson chi-square test

AnnotationOne of the results of globalization process, which includes Slovak Republic as well, is the formation of multinational companies whose business activities are beyond national boundaries. The national economy is influenced by the global environment which creates and changes conditions for working people. Employees get opportunities for the development and gaining intercultural competences by working in a multinational company. It also brings advanced technologies, know-how, business partners and other important organizational elements and their cultural and social differences. The demand for employees and managers, who are able to work in a multicultural area increases as well as demands on their abilities and skills. Motion of people, information, ideas, products and innovations through different countries requires competent and flexible managers who are able to manage diversity, to deal with unexpected situations, to manage the work of employees of different cultures and to quickly adapt to dynamically changing conditions. Therefore, human resources management in multinational companies gets international dimension induced by the actions taken in the intercultural environment. The aim of this paper is to present the views of domestic and foreign experts in international human resources management. It is based on the comparison of the theoretical knowledge with the results of survey among managers of selected enterprises belonging to multinational companies in Slovak Republic

These opinions are different as a result of different expectations of employees and managers. The methodology of the paper is based on the following axiom: managers prioritize the processes of human resources management closely related to key employee retention improvement. To achieve the aim of the study, the largest pulp and paper companies in Slovakia were selected. Human resource managers and other professionals were asked about their opinions and attitudes about developing and retaining employees. AnnotationDôsledkom procesu globalizácie je vznik nadnárodných spoločností. Globálne prostredie vytvára a mení politiku riadenia ľudských zdrojov.
