AnnotationDesign and comparison of a suitable separation technique during the machining process in a CNC machining center. The paper deals with the issue of chip extraction from the milling process in a CNC machining center. The paper aimed to compare the particle size distribution of dust generated in the milling process of natural wood (beech, oak, and spruce) and MDF on a 5-axis CNC machining center. The particle size distribution was evaluated using sieve analysis of samples from the total weight of the captured dust. The results showed that the processing of natural wood is mainly characterized by the formation of coarse dust fractions (2 mm - 1 mm sieves), while the processing of MDF was associated with the formation of fine dust fractions with a size below 100 μm. Another of the objectives was to compare the separation values on the fractional separation curves of selected mechanical separators and filters with the size distribution of dust particles and to propose a suitable separation technique that meets the criteria of "best available technique" (BAT) in the processing of natural wood and MDF, as well as to point out the creation of and the production of harmful dust fractions, which arise mainly during the processing of MDF. We intended to assess whether the introduction of the given technology with the given material mix will also require modifications on the side of the extraction device.

AnnotationThe aim of this paper is the issue of a sustainable manufacturing process in the context of woodworking by sanding, as one of the most important technological operations before its final treatment, focusing on a selected pillar of sustainable manufacturing process, waste management. The first step of the experiment was to optimize the pressures of the sanding means on the surface. The optimal pressure of 1.04 N cm􀀀2 was chosen. The second level was to obtain the wear curves of the abrasive means with grain size 80 (evaluated by wood removal) and the optimal pressure in dependence on the sanding direction (along and perpendicular to the wood fibres and in the direction of 60 to the wood fibres) and different types of woods (beech, oak, alder, pine). The set parameters were suitable for beech and were not suitable for alder and pine. By extending the operating life of the sanding belts via appropriate choice of input factor settings it can be influenced metrics of pillar waste management-savings of material and waste minimization.

AnnotationDifferentiating and ecologizing of products have gained an increasing amount of importance, and green logistics has achieved an irreplaceable position as an important tool for competitiveness. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), in this case wood-processing enterprises, can achieve this position through the innovation of green products. Based on the results of research focused on finding out how customers perceive green wood products, the objective of this work is to propose possible ways to implement green products in wood-processing SMEs in Slovakia, while taking into account the requirements of customers related to green products. The research was evaluated by methods of testing the statistical hypothesis (binomial test, Chi-square test, Friedman test, and Wilcoxon test), descriptive statistics, and data visualization. The survey revealed that primary reasons why customers of wood-processing SMEs do not buy green wood products is their high price and an insufficient amount of available information about them. In addition to the price, respondents mainly take the quality and safety of the products into account when making purchases. Based on the analysis performed, three basic green strategies focused on product innovation are proposed for consideration by wood-processing SMEs in Slovakia and elsewhere.

Annotation© 2017, Journal Drvna Industrija. All rights reserved. Forestry and wood-processing industry are sectors based on renewable ecological natural resources of wood raw material. Wood mass processing should be based on sustainable development, which involves the economic and social development based on environment preservation. Green logistics, which leads to change in creating the product value, characterizes different possibilities to measure and minimize the ecological impact of logistics activities and puts emphasis on sustainable ecological orientation, is closely related to sustainable development. The aim of this article is to investigate the issue of green logistics of forestry and wood processing in small and medium enterprises in Slovakia. To reach this goal, an empirical research was carried out, the objective of which was to determine the level of understanding, as well as the implementation of green logistics activities, and to identify its potential for future implementation.

AnnotationAdhesives are in wood and furniture industry important auxiliary material that contributes greatly not only to the improvement of product quality, but at the same time adhesives are also the basis for the development of new wooden products. The benefits of using foamed adhesives have technological and economic aspects, which in the article we try to validate through the test of delamination of bonded joints according to the methodology of Institut für Fenstertechnik, IFT Rosenheim (Germany). In the article we try to describe the economics aspects of such modified process and we try to find the proposal for refinancing of initial investment associated with such process innovation from external sources.
