    Annotation© 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG. The professionalization of nursery school teachers is currently a much-discussed topic within the Czech Republic. In this study, the authors present interim results of their research into the career trajectories of nursery school teachers, and compare these to the trajectories of junior level elementary school teachers. The research sample comprised thirteen nursery school teachers (3 of whom are currently Czech School Inspectorate inspectors), and also ten junior level elementary school teachers. This sample included five nursery school principals and five elementary school principals. In the qualitative design of the research, two research methods were used, specifically the writing of a themed text, and interviews. By analysing and processing the data obtained, categories were produced which capture different evolutionary phases in the career trajectory of nursery school teachers, elementary school teachers and inspectors.

    AnotáciaThis study explores the possibilities of using comics in kindergartens and generally in all types preschool institutions. The authors present a summary of the knowledge about comics, types of comics, and their application by preschool teachers. The study presents examples of particular work with preschool children (age of 4 to 6 years) supplemented by methodological support of didactic concepts. One part of the study is based on a presentation of specific techniques (technical, graphic and visual) that can help teachers to create their own comics. Comics are introduced in the context of the development of science education as one of the strategies in inquiry based science education. The teacher as a comic maker is an actor but children can create and complete the comics and therefore they enter actively into the didactic process.     AnotáciaThe aim of the paper is to describe the PhD study and after graduation situation of graduates of Czech universities who completed their programme between 2010 2017. The first phase of the investigation was a quantitative study of a representative sample of Czech PhD graduates that aimed at revealing details of their study and after-graduation opportunities and careers. The second phase of the investigation was a qualitative study of a small sample aimed at understanding the reasons of young people to pursue a PhD programme at a university, to reveal academic, social and personal factors that influenced their decision to complete the PhD study and start an employment at a university.

    AnnotationProfessional beliefs is an important factor that influences activities that preschool teachers organize and manage in the classroom. In order to determine how strong these beliefs are, valid and reliable instruments must be at disposal. This research aimed to develop and validate DPBA, an instrument designed to measure teachers' beliefs toward the use of inquiry-based activities in preschool classes. A sample of 1,004 Czech preschool teachers was used to obtain the validation data. From the initial set of 40 items, a final version of DPBA with 22 items was created in a series of analyses. Principal component and maximum likelihood methods with Varimax rotation were used to extract an appropriate scale structure. DPBA is composed of three subscales, Benefits (12 items), Teacher competence (6 items) and Concerns (4 items), which have reliabilities of .906;.847 and .729, respectively.
