Descr. kapitoly v knihe - book chapters Language English Country Poland Annotation This chapter deals with human mobility within the territory of the European Union which is often (but not accurately) called “an area without frontiers”. We briefly introduce what it means when we talk over “free movement of persons in the European Union”. The free movement of persons in the European Union is closely connected to the Schengen area or the Schengen system as well as to the introduction of the Citizenship of the European Union – both have significantly strengthened the “internal” and “external” dimension of European Union migrations, which will be discussed in more detail. When discussing free movement of persons in the European Union context, it is vital to distinguish at least two types of migrations – non-work and work migrations or mobility. In this chapter, we do not pay attention to all types of migrations, and instead concentrate solely on migrations and mobility due to work related reasons. The section of the second chapter dealing with work or labour mobility focuses exclusively on EU citizens and EEA nationals within the European Union; and in juxtaposition, the last part of the second chapter deals with the labour immigration from the so-called third countries to the European Union, including the EU legislation covering this area. Descr. kapitoly v knihe - book chapters Language English Country Poland Annotation Discrimination in human resource management and external knowledge in multinational environment is the main topic of this chapter. In this part, we mention equality which is not the only a criterion for the execution of rights and their legal protection (legal equality) but equality also needs to be seen as a basic human right. Equality as an important employment principle is tightly connected with the principle of equal treatment in industrial relations. Principle of equal treatment does not only mean equal treatment of people in the same situations but application of this basic human right also expresses request for the public authorities to treat authorized bearers of human rights differently in different situations. We also aimed at clarifying the terms, such as discrimination, direct discrimination and indirect discrimination in this chapter. An important part of this chapter is the brief description of the characteristics of individual reasons for discrimination (sex and gender, sexual orientation – identity, racial and ethnic reasons, religion, faith and world view, disability, age). We also deal with global economics, scanning global learning opportunities, globalization of culture and global technology in this section. After that, there is also the characteristic of convergence principle and divergence principle and the general characteristic of the International Labour Organization with its history, main bodies and their impact on the intercultural environment. The economic, legal, and political systems that have developed over time are the visible elements of a more fundamental set of shared meanings in society. Culture also affects the goals of the institutions of society, the way the institutions operate, the employment relations connected with the mobility and the reasons that their members have for their policies and behaviour. The aim of this monograph is to analyse the employment issues within the European integration area and its important impact on the human mobility in the European context. We also emphasize the discriminatory factor in human resource management. We have used the methods of analysis, deduction and comparison during the composition of this scientific monograph. Descr. monografie - monographies Language English Country Poland Annotation International Human Resources Management (IHRM) is very important part of MNC management. The IHRM processes are more complex than managing human resources in the local environment. MNCs manage and deal with their employees in different international contexts, in different institutional, legal and cultural circumstances. They develop effective management practices from a strategic and a cost-efficient point of view. IHRM activities cover the management of employees in different locations. In this context, the question arises as to what extent can the MNC standardize IHRM procedures and processes to all countries in which the company operates? Finding answers to the advantages and disadvantages of standardization associated with the degree of convergence and divergence in IHRM, led us to solve the research project VEGA 1/0116/18 "Convergence and divergence in international human resources management", funded by the Scientific Grant Agency of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic and the Slovak Academy of Sciences. The project involved 7 researchers from the Faculty of Economics, the Faculty of Political Science and International Relations and the Faculty of Law of the Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica. The scientific goal of the project is to examine the views of managers of selected companies in Slovakia on the advantages and disadvantages of working in a multinational company and to design a flexible system of international human resources management, taking into account the degree of convergence and divergence. The presented monograph is one of the outputs of the project. The aim of the scientific monograph is in line with the aim of the research project and focuses on the presentation of the opinions of managers of selected companies in Slovakia at IHRM, the design of a flexible management system for multicultural teams taking into account examples of good practices. MNCs have mostly been successfully established in Slovakia and represent a benefit in terms of labor productivity, modernization, application of new cutting-edge technologies, organizational culture and management system in conditions of interculturality, growing production and economic growth of the country. This statement was confirmed by 271 MNCs, which participated in the sociological survey in the form of a questionnaire. In order to obtain more detailed information on the positives and negatives of human resource management processes and to identify examples of good practices, we personally conducted structured interviews with human resource managers in 53 MNCs. The content of the surveys was to determine the importance of HRM processes. The subject of the research was also the opinions of managers on HRM processes in terms of their importance and the need to solve potential problems. The research of IHRM, intercultural communication, cultural differences is not given much attention in the conditions of Slovakia. The benefit of the project solution is, based on the research carried out, the design of the IHRM system and the development of new trends and examples of good practices in MNCs operating in Slovakia. We are aware that the achieved outputs of the solution are open and create space for scientific discussion. We appreciate the interest of the professional public, which is or wants to devote to the HRM process in MNCs, in the presentation of their ideas and comments on the improvement of the human resources management system in the international context. Attention is paid to “visible differences” in everyday life, social rules, way of communication and language represented in English-written literature (novels by Betty Mahmoody and Khaled Hosseini). We compare seemingly incompatible cultures in connection to behaviour and attitudes of people from different cultures (Muslim, American and Slovak).
