AnnotationThe respiratory system can be an important and sometimes limiting factor in sports performance. Breathing ensures the supply of oxygen to the body and the removal of carbon dioxide, which is essential for proper muscle function and energy metabolism. During intense physical activity with high oxygen consumption, inadequate oxygen delivery to muscles can occur. Athletes may experience breathlessness during intense exercise, which can limit their ability to maintain high performance over a prolonged period. Breathlessness may be caused by an increased breathing rate and insufficient relaxation of the respiratory muscles. Limitations of the respiratory system can impact the athletic performance of highly trained athletes, especially at high intensities, where increased respiratory effort leads to performance limitations. Additionally, fatigue of the respiratory muscles not only reduces the ability for adequate ventilation, but also increases the activity of the sympathetic nervous system, resulting in decreased blood flow to the peripheral muscles. Suboptimal breathing patterns reduce breathing efficiency during sports activities and can decrease an athlete's overall performance. EILO is an abbreviation for "Exercise-Induced Laryngeal Obstruction." EILO is a medical condition in which temporary obstruction of the larynx occurs during physical activity or exercise. This behaviour of laryngeal obstruction can manifest in various ways, including breathlessness, snoring, choking, or other symptoms associated with limitations in breathing during sports activities. EILO may resemble asthma or other respiratory problems, so it is important to distinguish these conditions because treatment and management can differ. People with EILO can continue to participate in sports and exercise, but individual training adjustments and measures may be necessary to minimize the symptoms and complications associated with this condition.

AnnotationPhysical activity represents a fundamental aspect of human life and serves to fulfill our basic needs. This term encompasses various forms of movement and physical activity. Each of us has a natural tendency to move, but modern lifestyles often lead us to be less active, which can be termed hypoactivity. Hypoactivity results in a significant decrease in active muscle work and the functionality of the systems necessary for proper movement. Hypoactivity leads to a diminished overall quality of life. The COVID-19 pandemic, which has affected nearly every corner of the world, placed enormous pressure on world leaders, politicians, and public health authorities. These individuals were faced with the challenging task of addressing the worsening situation. Their decisions included the isolation and restriction of various facilities. Furthermore, facilities that promote physical activity, such as gyms, pools, and indoor and 21 outdoor sports and recreational spaces, were temporarily closed. Beyond its impact on physical activity, the pandemic also had a profound effect on people's mental and social well-being. COVIDMOVE is a project that aims to promote and increase physical activity among individuals in the post-COVID-19 pandemic period. Its main objective is to motivate people to exercise and movement to improve their physical health and well-being after the period of restrictions and shutdowns caused by the pandemic.

AnnotationHigh-quality sensory perception and body scheme (somatognosis) are important aspects for sport performance. This study compares stereognosis, body scheme, and kinesthesia in a group of 36 competitive karate athletes against a control group of 32 general population participants. The stereognosis Petrie test, two body scheme tests, and three kinesthesia tests served as outcome measurement tools. No significant difference was found in the stereognosis Petrie test, for the dominant (p = .389) or the nondominant (p = .791) hand, nor in the kinesthesia test (dominant, p = .661 and nondominant, p = .051). Karate athletes performed significantly better in the body scheme tests, that is, fist width estimation (p = .024) and shoulder width estimation (p = .019), as well as in karate-specific kinesthesia tests, that is, single punch (p = .010) and triple punch (p = .001). This study confirms competitive karate athletes have significantly better somatognosis, and better accuracy when performing quick dynamic movements compared with the general population.

AnnotationThe direct toxicity of cancer treatment threatens patients and survivors with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease or adverse functional changes with subsequent progression of cardiovascular complications. An accumulation of cardiovascular risk factors combined with an unhealthy lifestyle has recently become more common in cancer patients and survivors. It has been recommended to integrate a comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation model called cardio-oncology rehabilitation to mitigate cardiovascular risk. Nevertheless, cardiac rehabilitation interventions limit barriers in low utilization, further exacerbated by the restrictions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, it is essential to integrate alternative interventions such as telehealth, which can overcome several barriers. This literature review was designed as a framework for developing and evaluating telehealth interventions and mobile applications for comprehensive cardio-oncology rehabilitation. We identify knowledge gaps and propose strategies to facilitate the development and integration of cardiooncology rehabilitation telehealth as an alternative approach to the standard of care for cancer patients and survivors. Despite the limited evidence, the pilot results from included studies support the feasibility and acceptability of telehealth and mobile technologies in cardio-oncology rehabilitation. This new area suggests that telehealth interventions are feasible and induce physiological and psychological benefits for cancer patients and survivors. There is an assumption that telehealth interventions and exercise may be an effective future alternative approach in supportive cancer care.

AnnotationIntroduction: Many patients have prolonged symptoms after COVID-19 infection, which can affect patient quality of life (QOL). The aim of this study is to determine the quality of life in patients with long COVID, compared with healthy controls. Material and methods: The study was a prospective cross-sectional study using an anonymous online survey. The SF-36 questionnaire was chosen for quality of life measurement. The survey was distributed through the Facebook social media platform targeting groups of patients with long COVID. The control group was made up of physiotherapy and physical education students. Results: There was a significant difference in physical function, with a mean score of 94.9 (±9.4) among the students, compared to long COVID patients with a mean score of 66.2 (±25.4) (p < 0.001). A similar result was found in the physical role (p < 0.001). The overall quality of life score for college students was 578.0 (±111.9), and the overall score for patients with long COVID was 331.9 (±126.9). Conclusions: Patients with long COVID had a lower quality of life compared to the healthy control group, and this was associated with the negative effect of long-COVID. Lower quality of life in patients with long COVID is an important therapeutic goal, which requires attention.

Predný krížny väz odstupuje z posteriomediálnej časti laterálneho femorálneho kondylu a smeruje anteromediálnym smerom do oblasti interkondylárnej eminencie.
