Oxidation causes acidification of the water and the release of heavy metals. In the article are presented results of the biomass fly ash application for heavy metals removal from acid mine drainage water. Three types of biomass ash were used. Two of used ashes were fly ashes from the heating plant combusting biomass (fly ash from the bag filter and fly ash from the mechanical separator) and the third was the biomass ash from domestic combustion of beech and oak wood. Analysed acid mine drainage water contained high concentrations of metals Fe (753 mg.L-1), Mn (16.2 mg.L-1), Zn (2.46 mg.L-1) and had low pH (2.4). Various doses of fly ashes (1 g, 5 g, 10 g, 20 g) were reacting with acid mine drainage water during 4 hours. The pH of acid mine drainage water was controlled by increasing dose of the fly ash and with increasing time of reaction. The best results were obtained with use of plant fly ash from the bag filter which increased pH of the water to 8.1. Application of this fly ash was effective in removal of all analysed metals from the water. When using other two tested fly ashes increase of concentrations of some metals occurred Public work category AFD No. of Archival Copy 37045 Catal.org. The Ľubietová Cu (Ag) is situated in the Ľubietová crystalline complex of Permian age which consists of greywackes, arcose schists and conglomerates. The probably volcano-sedimentary Cu-(Ag-) mineralisation, genetically connected with the basic, intermediate and acid Permian volcanism, was mobilised by granite intrusion during the Alpine orogeny. The economically main ore minerals were native copper, chalcopyrite and Ag-tetrahedrite. The mine was definitelly closed during in April 1915. The research define the main environmental risks (heavy metal distribution, their toxicity, pH/Eh conditions, migration of the potentially toxic elements and their release from dump-field material, as well as their sorption on natural sorbents, acidification risk, erosion etc.) in country components (soil/technogenic sediments, water, plants) and suggest the possible effective remediation solutions (e.g. water cleaning by permeable Fe0-barrier, moving dump-field material stabilisation on steep slopes etc.). The results are presented also using the GIS-visualisation. Public work category AAB No. of Archival Copy 35344 Catal.org.
