AnnotationHeavy metal and metalloid-contaminated soil is a serious barrier to colonization for many plant species. The problem of the elimination of toxic waste accumulated in technogenous soils in many highly transformed regions is extremely important. Hence, another attempt was made to analyze the effect of the addition of sorbents (BCH-biochar, B-bentonite, ChM-chicken manure, OS-organo-zeolitic substrate) to contaminated copper soil on the germination and early growth of Eurasian common grass species (Agrostis capillaris, A. stolonifera, Festuca rubra and Poa pratensis), which could potentially be used in recultivation. This experiment was based on the laboratory sandwich method. Standard germination indexes, morphometry and biomass analysis were used. The percentage of germinating seeds was lower in each of the soil variants and sorbents used compared to the control. Dry mass was positively stimulated by all sorbents. The response to the addition of sorbents, expressed as the electrolyte le

AnnotationThis elaborate reports an environmental study concerning the abandoned Caporciano copper mine in Montecatini Val di Cecina. The environmental matrices (water, soil, dump sediments, plants) of the studied mining sites were investigated in order to evaluate its environmental status. The heavy metals mobilization can cause contamination of country components. Our attention was focused on heavy metal content in the studied environmental matrices. Concentration values which we found out by laboratory analyses were also compared with concentration limits provided by Italian law (L.D. 152/06) as far as soil and water are concerned. Acidification potential of dump sediments and soils from the dump was also studied. The acidification risk seems to be negligible. The bioconcentration factor (BIF) and translocation factor (TF) of the heavy metals in the studied plants (Pinus sp. and Quercus sp.) indicate that the plants are excluders. Also the enrichment factor (EF) is not very high

AnnotationThe deposits, located in Nová Ves and Zlaté Hory were well known and important sources of metal ore in Jesenniky region in the past. Especially the one in Nová Ves, which is recently the most important hydrothermal deposit of venous type in the whole area. The mining activity, aimed on lead and zinc minerals was practically permanent here from the middle-age to 1959. On the other hand, the site in Zlaté Hory is the most important ore deposit in Czech Silesia. The non-venous types of polymetallic, copper and gold deposits, evolved in the complex of metamorphic devon rocks are located on south and south-west directions of the area. Long and permanent mining industry caused remarkable changes in the local environment, creating mine heaps and depressions. The probability, that dump material contains potentially toxic substances that could be possibly leaked into surrounded environment is high. This contribution presents the part of complex study results, aimed on evaluating of potential environmental impacts in above mentioned locations. It aims on contamination, caused by potentially toxic heavy metals (Pb, Zn, Cu, Ni, Fe, Mn, Co, Cd, Cr and As) at the sites, exposed to mining activity in the past. The study focus on the contamination of these sites and evaluate them as potential risk for surrounded environment

AnnotationThe results of the potentially toxic elements imput to the representatives of the genus Pinus spp. and Quercus spp. at four selected closed Cu-deposits: Lubietová (Slovakia), Libiola and Caporciano (Italy) and São Domingos (Portugal) are significantly complicated. The imput of the potentially toxic elements to the plants at mining areas in comparison with reference areas usually markedly differ. At the mining areas show the plants much more bioaccumulation of toxic elements into their organs. The bioavailability of individual toxic elements is mutable but in general relatively limited. Pinus spp. and Quercus spp. are for most elements excluders (bioconcentration factor BCF < 1). Only Ag show extraordinary ability to high degree of bioconcentration. Also bioconcentration factor values in Pinus sp. at Lubietová ore-field show high degree of Pb and Zn accumulation in studied plants. Zinc is in Pinus spp. and Quercus spp. accumulated in needles at all studied deposits. The translocation factor (TF) indicates that the other studied toxic elements are accumulated preferentially in roots. The studied plants are suitable only for phytostabilization of the potentially toxic elements.

AnnotationOznačenie ťažké kovy bolo prevzaté z metalurgie. Ťažké kovy patria medzi základné skupiny kontaminujúcich látok. Ich definícia nie je jednoznačná. Z hľadiska chémie žiadny význam. Niekedy sa pojem ťažké kovy a pojem toxické kovy zamieňa. Skutočnosť, že termín ťažký kov nemá žiadny chemický význam a snaha nahradiť ho termínom toxický kov tiež nerieši skutočnosť, že kovy sú toxické len pri istej koncentrácii a v istých chemických väzbách, závislých na speciácii kovu viedla k snahe nahradiť vyššie uvedené nepresné termíny termínom potenciálne toxické prvky (PTP). Napriek tejto snahe sa nateraz vo všeobecnosti termín toxický kov – toxické kovy všeobecne používa

AnnotationKrajinné zložky v blízkom okolí banského poľa Podlipa v Ľubietovej sú v dôsledku exploatácie medených rúd a následného zvetrávania rozsiahlych banských depónií kontaminované potenciálne toxickými prvkami.

Bolo by vhodnejšie používať termín potenciálne toxický prvok.
