AnnotationElectronic monitoring is a relatively new tool in the field of criminal justice, invented in the late 1960s. Due to overcrowding of prisons and the expense of the daily maintenance per inmate, its use and implementation is growing worldwide. To date, academia and practice lack datato quite a significant extent, interdisciplinary approach and more robust information and experience related with the implementation and exploitation of electronic monitoring across European countries. The scientific objective of the paper is to analyse and evaluate an approach towardselectronic monitoring in European countries as an alternative form of punishment based on evidencedrawn froma holistic interdisciplinary approach. Based on this European evidence, and by using several mathematical and statistical methods (descriptive statistics and linear regression), this paper produces original research results. This exploratory study results in several practical implication and policy recommendations, and opens enormous scope for further research
