České Budějovice Banská Bystrica (Slovensko) Language Slovak Country Slovak Republic systematics 502 Annotation The presented study is focused on a comparison of the postsocialist transformation of spatial structures of Banská Bystrica and Ceské Budejovice. These cities (the former from Slovakia and the latter from the Czech Republic) are similar in their size, importance and administrative level (rank). The study is based on the analysis of spatial structures of both cities at the beginning of the postsocialist period (in the early 1990s, with data from 1991). Processes of the postsocialist transformation in both cities are examined on the platform of four case studies (1. the transformation of retail, 2. the transformation of housing construction, 3. the comparison of residential suburbanization, 4. the situation of homeless people and changes in social structure of inhabitants).
