Many European governments, especially due to their limited defence budget options, have to opt among several sensible structural reforms while defence issues often remain secondary. In 2009 eight European NATO member states opted for double digit percentage cuts in military spending2 and in some of the biggest countries, such as France and Germany, we are witnessing reduction in their military capabilities as well as massive drop in manpower. Germany itself is no exception to these processes. The articles deals with the current transformation of the German Armed Forces as well as its detailed structure, describes the most significant proposed changes and analyses its consequences on domestic and international scene. Further on, the article explores main concepts and long term strategies being applied in the German Armed Forces Public work category AED No. of Archival Copy 28223 Catal.org.
