This is the main reason for the EU to invest billions of Euros into a regional (cohesion) policy annually. This policy has accompanied the EU member states since the mid-20th century. This brings up the question of its demonstration in economic practice examination. As the aim of the common regional policy is to reduce the differences in social-economic development of its regions, we decided to analyze the β-convergence of the gross domestic product (GDP) per capita in purchasing power parity (PPP) during the statistically maximum available period of 20 years. The concept of β-convergence represents a regression analysis. In our case, it is 262 NUTS2 regions of the EU that will reveal convergence/divergence of the examined regions from the analysis indicator's point of view. The result of this analysis will indicate how appropriately the common regional policy is being implemented.
